The American Dream
As I watch all of the government chaos, I can't help to think about the 'American Dream'. I remember a time when the 'American Dream' meant something, when our Constitution meant something. These days, people are being tested in the belief of 'The American Dream' and tested in the faith of the Constitution. What happened to the words of the Preamble, it's almost as if they are now just words of the past.
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
As I listen to the details of our Government shut down, I wonder if the Republican party, understands what the Constitution really means. The words promote the general welfare, that is something that they do not do. There are many unemployed in this country, because there aren't enough jobs available. The Republicans always target the programs that actually help people, they don't promote the general welfare of people. By that, I don't mean everyone should be on Welfare and not work.
The words, provide for the common defense, mean nothing to them. The men and woman serving our country are working to keep us safe and have to wait for their paychecks. It obviously doesn't bother them if our Military personal can't pay their mortgage payments. It would be sad to see our government employees and Military workers end up homeless, because of the political power play of our government.
People wanted to move to America because of the 'American Dream', what does that really mean these days? Maybe there is the 'American Dream' and then there is the 'Republican Dream' and they must be two different things, with two different meanings. I think it is time for our government to honor and uphold our Constitution and bring back the 'American Dream', not shatter it.
