10 Things: The Younger Generation Needs To Know

Dear Younger Generation,

Congratulations on being young, enjoy your youth, it only happens once and it will go by fast. One day, you will have to become an adult and you are the future. I'm just a Mom and a person that was young once as well.

I have experienced many things in life and made many mistakes. I'm not trying to tell you what to do with your life or how to live it, I'm just here to offer you advice, that I think the younger generation isn't being taught.

Don't blame yourself that nobody taught you these things, it's just the fault of the society that we live in today. Here are my 10 things: The Younger Generation Needs To Know.

  1. World: Understand this clearly, please! The world owes you nothing for your existence and not one person owes you anything, for being on this planet.
  2. Respect: You have to earn people's respect, it's not given. Respect your elders and the elderly and they will respect you. After all, it's your elders that paved the way for you, in the world today.
  3. Manners: Please and Thank You are words you need in your vocabulary, use them daily. Open doors for other people and simply be kind to other people, even if they are not kind to you.
  4. Communication: Yes we live in a Social Media world, but you still have to learn how to communicate. Stop texting and actually use your phone to talk to people, including your parents.
  5. Work: Earn what you want, work for it and be proud that you understand, what it's like to earn your way through life. Have a good work ethic, show up on time and be productive while you are at work.
  6. Listen: When someone is speaking to you, listen and always be a good listener. You can learn many things, just by listening.
  7. Dress: The way you dress represents you, it's alright to express yourself. When you go to a job interview, dress professional and act professional, even if the job is at McDonald's. If you want an Employer to take you seriously and hire you, dress professional and act professional. Take the earrings out of your face, you can use plugs. Employers don't pay you to look fashionable, they pay you to do a job.
  8. Accountability: Don't blame others for your actions, hold yourself accountable for the things that you say and do.
  9. Decisions: The decisions that you make for yourself, will determine how your life will go. Make positive, healthy decisions and you will see positive results.
  10. Mistakes: Everyone makes them, we are all human, learn and grow from them, just don't repeat them and never blame anyone else for your mistakes, they are the results of the decision that you made for yourself.
As a parent, I worked hard to teach my own two children these very things. I know many of the younger generation, feels as if the older generation hates them and that's not true. We all came from a different breed and the world changed as we knew it.

As an adult, I can say that because I shut up and listened to the older generation, I gained much knowledge in life. I'm grateful that I had such inspiring people to teach me and help guide me along.

I'm also grateful for the younger generation, us adults are learning from you as well. You are the ones leading the way in Technology and Social Media. You have changed the way we are looking at the world and how we even go on a date.

We are learning the Texting Terminology from you and today's modern day language. Back in the day, a boy would ask a girl on a date and that meant, he went to her house, picked her up and actually acted like a gentleman.

I was raised in a generation, where girls had to learn to be ladies and had to be modest about their bodies. The 'Good 'Ol Days' seem to have disappeared and the morals don't seem to be taught anymore.

So to the younger generation, I say be young while you're young, have fun, learn lots and be a good person. Life isn't going to go the way that you plan it to; It never does for anyone, so don't take it personally, it isn't supposed to-it's why it's called life.

Everyone enjoy the rest of your Summer! Be young no matter how old you are and have some fun.

Bobbie
