My Triple Crown Experience

I was introduced to triple crown racing, when I was a bartender. The establishment that I worked at offered Simulcast Racing. It didn't take much persuasion for me to jump in on the excitement and become addicted to the thrill of the race.

Though I have never actually been to Churchill Downs for the Kentucky Derby, I found the best seats available, were the ones offered through Simulcast racing. Triple Crown Racing, draws in a crowd and the energy and excitement come together in one room, during a race and make for a memorable experience.

The tickets for the Triple Crown races, have to be bought in advance. The expense for travel and ticket prices, can become expensive. There are many Simulcast racing outlets across America, that offer the best front row seats, for each race.
Most Simulcast sights, have a party for each of the three races. The establishment that I worked at, had promotions and gave away prizes. The party always started, when the horses were drawn for post positions, for the Kentucky Derby.
I was put in charge of doing promotions for the Triple Crown Races. I created drink and food menu's for each race, naming menu items after the star horses, running in the events. I named a sandwich, 'The Smarty Sandwich', after the 2004 Derby winner, Smarty Jones.
The Kentucky Derby is known for the theme of roses and everyone track side wearing hats. It gave me the idea, to have a best hat contest, we gave away hats and Kentucky Derby shirts. The drinks that we served, were sold in Kentucky Derby, collector glasses.

The Preakness race, is the second leg for the Triple Crown. The excitement and energy levels are still at a high, with the anticipation that the winner of the Kentucky Derby, wins the Preakness race. The Preakness race is a big deal breaker, for the horse owners and jockey's participating in the race.
The third leg for the Triple Crown is the Belmont Stakes, if one horse wins the first two races, the crowd will turn out big. The same goes if the Derby winner loses at the Preakness, it can kill the Belmont crowd. All in all, the hope is there for a Triple Crown Winner.
It has been seven years since I left that job and I am long past do, to visit my horse racing family. I still find a Simulcast location, where ever I am, for the Triple Crown races. As one of my former patrons once said, 'You can take the girl away from the horse racing, but you can't take the horse racing out of the girl'.
My recommendation is this, if you can't afford to travel to the actual tracks, to take in the Triple Crown Races, find a Simulcast Racing location, for front row seats and join their party, for the thrill of the race
