A Taste of Seattle

To kick off my week in Seattle, I had to visit the famous Pike Place Market.  I don't think I could visit any place else, that has the feel of being in culinary heaven, while having the cultural experience. It's truly the heart of Seattle.

My senses came alive, the moment I stepped inside. My first stop was at Market Spice, the aromatic smells of teas and spice, wouldn't let me pass by without a tour. The walls are lined with jars of different spices and teas.  If you're a home cook, it's a great place to buy some ready made spices, from Fajita blends to Italian blends, they have it all.

If you're a tea lover, as I am, there are many to chose from. I was excited to try a sample of their signature blend of  orange and spice. I left a happy tourist after buying a bag of Oolong, Market Chai and Sunset in Seattle.

If fresh cut flowers are what you are looking for, there are plenty to chose from. Throughout the market, vendor's have beautiful bouquets for sale, at next to nothing prices. Tulips seem to be the star of the show this season, though there were many varieties to chose from.

Fresh veggie stands offer the best variety of fruits and veggies. From Papaya to Star Fruit, the variety is endless. There are many fruit and veggie stands through out, each offering a featured special and a competitive price.

Fish stands are truly the main event, offering up the best looking fish and seafood, the ocean has to offer. I was given a shopping tip from one of the shops employee's, on buying Salmon. He said if it's shiny on the outside and the eyes look good and healthy, then you know that the Salmon is good.

My favorite find was at the Herb n Farm Nw stand. I bought some different blends of finishing salts, that can also be used for cooking. The Pike Place Salt is a handmade blend of  kosher salt, basil, parsley and garlic. The Smoke n' Herb Salt, is a blend of kosher salt, parsley, chives, smoked Salish salt, habernero and cayanne. They grow their own herbs, then make the special blends, that you can take home for your table.

If you are looking for a gift, I found a great booth that offers gorgeous jewelry, it's called Fusion In Glass . Each piece is unique and made by artist Kyle VonWrangel Kinsey, using dichroic fusible glass and silver.

What ever you are in the mood for, if you visit Seattle, the Pike Place Market is a definite must see.

My next post tomorrow, I will share my visit to the Seattle Center with you, as I explore the Chihuly Garden and Glass.

Everyone have a great day!
