As I promised, here is a piece of my work that has been rejected. I was able to choose from an assignment desk, this one was as it is titled below. As I read this article, I see where I can change, grow and re-write, I am still learning from my mistakes. ; )




Why I Prefer Movies Over Television


The smell of popcorn drifting through the air; the dimming of the lights as the theater darkens, the big screen rises and the surround sound starts. The anticipation builds, as you are waiting for the movie to begin. Hollywood movie stars appear on the screen and it all comes together, to make the movie experience more exciting.

Like so many other people, I prefer a movie at a theater over television. I fall in love with the big screen, after all this is a Hollywood movie, country that we live in. Hollywood has a way of capturing our hearts with sexy movie stars and intense action. Most movies have a story line that hooks our attention and holds on to us, making us want more.

Though actors pour themselves into the roles they play, it comes out different in a movie.  These days television is all about reality TV, there is no thrill and excitement, just drama. Television has changed over the past twenty years, it isn’t about family programming anymore. The feeling of TV is not the same for me, even when I get hooked on a weekly series.

The actors are on another level in movies, than on regular television. The special effects and surround sound work together in harmony in most movies, creating the excitement of the big screen. The half hour or hour of entertainment TV offers, does not compare to the two hour experience, in a movie theater. What is your personal choice, movies or television?


The fun of writing is challenging myself, to come up with topics, pour my heart into writing and meet a deadline. I have learned to laugh at myself, when I look back of some of my writing. I learned to write from my heart, when I was a little girl. Now I am still learning, to write with my head as well.

I have days when I have to remind myself, if I strike out today, I may hit that home run tomorrow, I can't give up, the game is not over-until it is over. The game of life is not over, until God decides that it is over, we have to keep on keeping on and fighting the fight. Life is full of good and bad and we all are faced with challenges, it's all part of what makes life so beautiful. Live for the little moments, they are the moments that mean the most, even if we are rejected from something or someone.

The Little Things

Life takes us down many roads as we chase after our dreams, we often take for granted the beauty of what we are surrounded with. When we consume ourselves chasing after our dreams, we often forget to stop and smell the flowers. The one thing that I have learned is to appreciate the priceless little things in life What I am talking about are the things that are priceless, that money can't buy. Such as a beautiful sunset over the ocean. The feel of the sand between our toes. The way the sun feels on your skin, when it is shining on you, on a perfect day. The smell of flowers in the air, when they blossom in the Spring. As a parent, you learn that when you don't have money to provide for your children the way you had hoped, you learn to appreciate the little things of being a parent. The feeling you get the first time you look into your babies eyes. The sound of the first time they laugh. The smile on a child's face, when they see a toy and they get a gleam in their eyes....

The Women and Girls of Kenya: Part 3

As a woman, I believe that every woman should be able to embrace, being a woman. We should be able to be comfortable in our own skin and we should not have to compromise our femininity. We should be able to 'own' being a woman. For many woman and young girls of Kenya, embracing being a woman, isn't always the option. In some villages, woman have to feel that having a menstrual cycle each month, is a shame. Many young girls in Kenya, are missing out on going to school, because of having a period each month. We live in a society that is built off of modern technology and never have to think of feminine products and sanitary napkins as a luxury in life. We are fortunate enough, that our government had no desire, to control how woman survive their period each month. Life for the young girls and women in Kenya, is not as simplified.
