The Women and Girls of Kenya: Part 1
As I was networking on Stage 32 , for my Screenwriting. I connected with an amazing woman, Vinanti Sarkar, the founder and owner, of Voices of Woman World Wide. VOWW, is a web site for "Voices" for the "Voiceless" woman, young girls and men on gender equality.
I received an invite to join the website and I did. Vinanti Sarkar is a Documentary Director and films woman and girls, telling their own stories. After chatting with Vinanti, I asked her, "What is the most inspiring story, that you have come across?"
Vinanti told me about a woman from Kenya, Phionah Musumba, the founder and Executive Director of Malkia Foundation and Center for Disadvantaged Girls Kenya. Vinanti told me about the woman and girls in Kenya and how they have to fight to survive and live.
The tears were rolling from my eyes, as I learned what the woman and girls in Kenya have to go through. It sickened me to think about the woman and young girls, having to struggle just to have sanitary napkins, each month and trying to protect themselves from rape. This day in age, knowing that they have to live life that way, is wrong.
After talking with Vinanti, I wanted to help, so I volunteered to donate my writing skills and my Blog. Vinanti wasted no time and connected me with Phinoah Musumba, through VOWW and email.
Over the next few weeks, I will be writing a series of Blog posts, on the woman and girls of Kenya. I will introduce you to Phionah Musumba and tell you about her amazing story. My goal is to help bring light, to the woman and girls in Kenya and help Phinoah's dream, of helping these woman and girls, become a reality.
I will be working closely with Phionah, to help raise funds and receive donations for feminine napkins, clothes and school supplies, for the girls in Kenya.
In the mean time, I have reached out to Oprah Winfrey, to bring this to her attention. Everyone knows that if Oprah can make a difference, she will. Oprah is a powerful woman, with a heart of gold, that can make a difference.
I have also sent a Tweet to Director Michael Bay, asking him to do a documentary on the woman of Kenya. Why Michael Bay, because I read an article, that he wanted to do a documentary on elephants. No offense to the elephants Mike, if this is true, but you can really make a bigger difference with this story.
If I could put together a "Super Team", with Oprah Winfrey, Michael Bay, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie and any celebrity, that likes to help make a difference, I would. To help build the school that Phinoah dreams of building and help bring civilization to the woman and girls of Kenya.
I find it hard to believe, that the Kotex company and other feminine napkin companies, won't donate feminine products to this cause. It is all in getting the ball rolling, to make it happen and that is my goal.
My next post will introduce you to Phionah Musumba and tell you her amazing story. Please stay tuned, I know it will touch your heart, as much as it has touched mine.
Everyone Have a Great Week!
