The Women and Girls of Kenya: Part 4
This week, I want to introduce you to the health care, or lack of health care, in Kenya. The health care is a broken system, that is desperate for Funding, Facilities and Medical Provider's. World Health Organizations reports, that Kenya has just one doctor and only 12 nurses/midwives, for every 10,000 people,
For the young children in Kenya, immunizations against disease, is a luxury that they do not have. Malnutrition prevents these kids from being healthy and effects their growth, learning abilities and education. Children's multi vitamins, that we take for granted, are not available to keep them healthy.
The young girls and women, do not have the luxury of regular Pap Smear exams and Mammogram testing. There is no Planned Parenthood to offer Medical Screenings and Birth Control assistance. There is no Women's World Health Foundation, to step in and offer medical care and a cure for HIV.
There are no modern medical facilities for pregnant women, to receive Prenatal care and Prenatal Vitamins are another luxury, that these women can not afford. There is no preventative health care, to keep these pregnant women healthy, or to help them deliver healthy babies.
Life in Kenya, is faced with many challenges. There are water-borne and mosquito-carried diseases, so Malaria is no stranger in this country. The real threat is HIV/AIDS and it kills more than 80,000 people each year.
For the people that live in what is considered to be the Slums, preventive medical care and medical treatment, is a luxury that is a stranger and they have lived without. The medical care that is offered, is very expensive and includes travel and waiting in line.
The women in Kenya continue to fight for the best at survival, for themselves and their children. They face their battles in every day living and there is no modern day technology at their finger tips. They live each day with hope, that they will be able to change life in Kenya.
The dream of the Malkia Foundation, is to build a Clinic, that will serve the poor and help them get the medical care and medications, that the people are desperate for. The Clinic would have to be run by volunteer Doctor's and Health Care professionals, from around the world.
The medical supplies and equipment would also have to come from donations. This Clinic would help the children to become healthy, to be able to get an education. The women would be able to get the prenatal care, medical screenings and birth control, that they need to be healthy.
The Malkia Foundation is accepting donations through gofundme, to help build this Clinic and to help provide for the young girls and women in Kenya. You can help by making a donation today, (click on this link gofundme ) even a $5 donation, is a start to bringing the change, that they desperately need.
Next week, I will introduce you to how, the Malkia Foundation, is making a difference already.
Everyone Have a Great Week!
Bobbie
