New Year-New Beginnings

Out with the old, in with the new. I love the New Year, it brings hope for new beginnings and fresh starts. I am always amused, when I listen to friends set unrealistic resolutions for themselves, that they will most likely forget about by January 5th. Though I am guilty of doing the same thing myself. Through the years I have tried different ways to bring in the New Year. I have partied with friends, and stayed home and practiced Feng Shui with my two kids. What I learned is to keep my resolutions to a minimum and try to be realistic. I don't like to set myself up for failure, so I don't say I am going to loose that five pounds that I gained over the holidays. On New Years day, I think of ways that I can eat healthier and get more fit. I don't make a list of things I will do for the year, I do think of what steps I will take to achieve my long term goals. With the holiday's approaching, some are dreading having to deal with family. It happens to all of us, we all have a family member we don't like to deal with, your not alone. I made the decision when my kids were young, to start my own Thanksgiving traditions. I hated the family drama and I didn't want my kids around it. I started staying home and cooking myself, with my kids helping. I was tired of negative comments and feeling angry or frustrated every holiday. A friend asked me, why I kept attending family functions if it made me unhappy. I gave it thought and realized, who cares if I make someone else mad, by saving myself from being miserable. The American Dream

As I watch all of the government chaos, I can't help to think about the 'American Dream'. I remember a time when the 'American Dream' meant something, when our Constitution meant something. These days, people are being tested in the belief of  'The American Dream' and tested in the faith of the Constitution. What happened to the words of the Preamble, it's almost as if they are now just words of the past. We the People of the United States ,  in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic  Tranquility , provide for the common  defense , promote the general  Welfare , and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our  Posterity , do  ordain  and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. 5 Things- To Do In Autumn

I always look forward to Autumn, it's one of my favorite seasons. The temperatures are always perfect and refreshing after the hot Summer weather. I always try to think of all the things I love to do, for every season, it reminds me of what I have to look forward to. One of the benefits of living in Montana; is having four seasons, though some joke that Hunting season and Fishing season are the only seasons that Montana has. I always find it interesting, when people complain about the weather, each season has it's weather and purpose. I don't think of the negative things that I don't like, I remind myself of the positive things that I love. 5 Things To Do Before Summer Ends

As summer winds to an end, remember that it isn't over yet. There are still things that you can get out and do before the weather turns cool. Live by the motto, to make the most of every minute and make every minute count. I am trying to remind myself of the things, that I will be wishing I would have done this summer. Here are my top five on my list. Wake up early, go sit outside, drink coffee and watch the sunrise. Go to a lake, jump in and take a swim.  Grab a blanket and a bottle of wine and watch the sunset. Go hiking, ride a bike or do any outdoor activity that you won't do in the winter. Visit a State Park Some of the most simple things in life you can do alone, though it is more romantic, when you watch a sunset or rise with another person. I think the most important thing is, that we take those few moments to take it all in, for all we are surrounded with. Movie Writing

Over the past year, I have been reading books to learn how to write a screenplay. I finally decided to put my writing skills and what I have learned so far, to use. I know that I have to start small, so I found a script writing contest.  ​Using a tag line that was created by a Hollywood director, I created a story. With the writing courses I have taken and the books I have read so far, on Movie Writing, I came across things that I have not found mentioned. The Creative Concept and Story Development-  As any writer knows, the creative concept can be either a blessing or a curse. A story can catch your mind at any given moment and haunt you, until you release it on to paper. It can keep you awake at night and consume you, until you write it. If the story turns out good, then the blessing is worth the curse of course. I knew I had to write 15 pages, meaning I had to make it good. The Little Things

Life takes us down many roads as we chase after our dreams, we often take for granted the beauty of what we are surrounded with. When we consume ourselves chasing after our dreams, we often forget to stop and smell the flowers. The one thing that I have learned is to appreciate the priceless little things in life What I am talking about are the things that are priceless, that money can't buy. Such as a beautiful sunset over the ocean. The feel of the sand between our toes. The way the sun feels on your skin, when it is shining on you, on a perfect day. The smell of flowers in the air, when they blossom in the Spring. As a parent, you learn that when you don't have money to provide for your children the way you had hoped, you learn to appreciate the little things of being a parent. The feeling you get the first time you look into your babies eyes. The sound of the first time they laugh. The smile on a child's face, when they see a toy and they get a gleam in their eyes....

15 Things I Have Learned As A Woman

They say with age comes wisdom, I agree with that. Wisdom comes from learning and what we learn throughout our life, is how we develop wisdom. When I was turning 40, I had people ask me how it felt, I wasn't dreading getting older, so I wasn't sure how to answer. I was working in the service industry at that time, I had a conversation with an elderly client in her seventies, explaining that I was turning 40 and everyone kept asking  me that question. To my surprise, she asked me another question, "What have you learned so far, as a woman?" At first I laughed, because I wasn't sure how to answer her, I had never really thought about it. I asked her to give me a moment to think about it. Then when I answered, I said  "I made mistakes in my twenties, in relationships and financially, paid for them in my thirties and I hope that my forties are better".  She started laughing and said "Oh Bobbie girl, you are learning". Why Do Woman Love Shoes?

Why is it, that men can not understand, why a woman loves shoes. By now men of all ages should have accepted the whole concept of a woman and her love for shoes. Recently, my 16 year old son asked me that very question "Why do woman love shoes?" My only answer at the time, was telling him to get used to it, someday he will get married and have a wife that loves shoes. A week later, I started asking myself that very same question and here is what I came up with. My top ten list: Woman's Rights- It's part of our wardrobe, we have the right to choose. Shoes can make us feel sexy and confident. Men love it when woman are sexy and confident. Shoes offer Variety and we love Variety. There is a shoe for every season. Every season is a reason. Cooking: My Frittata Recipe

I like to share a recipe every now and then, it makes me feel as if I am sharing a piece of myself, with my readers. I love to cook and love to challenge myself in the kitchen. I grew up in the kitchen with my grandmother and my uncles and so have my two children, cooking time was family bonding time. I spent this past week with my family, we had a family reunion and we all took turns cooking. I was on breakfast duty and decided to make a Frittata, they are fast, easy and serve plenty. The first thing I do is raid the refrigerator for any left over vegetables, meat and cheeses. Next I add my favorite ingredients to bring it all together and recruit other family members to help me with prepping all the ingredients. Striking Out

As I promised, here is a piece of my work that has been rejected. I was able to choose from an assignment desk, this one was as it is titled below. As I read this article, I see where I can change, grow and re-write, I am still learning from my mistakes. ; ) Why I Prefer Movies Over Television The smell of popcorn drifting through the air; the dimming of the lights as the theater darkens, the big screen rises and the surround sound starts. The anticipation builds, as you are waiting for the movie to begin. Hollywood movie stars appear on the screen and it all comes together, to make the movie experience more exciting. Like so many other people, I prefer a movie at a theater over television. I fall in love with the big screen, after all this is a Hollywood movie, country that we live in. No Stranger To Rejection

As a writer, the one thing that I have become familiar with is rejection. I remember the first article I submitted to Parent Magazine, it was rejected and I was very frustrated. Over the years I have submitted numerous pieces of my work, to several different places and have been rejected. I was rejected by Field and Stream Magazine for an article and told my children's book was to auspicious, by a publisher. This past week, I have had two articles rejected from Yahoo and two published on Yahoo Voices. There was a time, when I would let rejection discourage me. It was when I read Stephen Kings non fiction book 'On Writing' that helped me realize, rejection happens to the best writers. I have saved my letters of rejection and joked with both my kids, that I will staple them on the wall. Being rejected is what taught me, to never give up and to keep writing. I look at Stephen King not only as a brilliant writer, I see him as a great teacher and inspiration to all writers....

Making A Difference

Over this past week; I decided to donate my writing skills, to help my cousin Jessica's aunt, Kari Galassi. After I did a telephone interview with her and wrote an article on her story. I was trying to decide how I could help other people, with my writing skills. I decided to start a second Blog, to help Organ Donor recipients to connect with people that can help them. The Blog is called Connecting Organs, I also started a Facebook page by the same name. I teamed up with my life long friend, Carrie Dalton. We will use the Blog to do a feature, on an Organ Recipient, in need of help. Our goal is to help as many people, as we possibly can. Carrie and I have been personally effected, by End Renal Kidney Failure. We both have had people we were, or are close to go through Kidney Transplants. My First Published Article

This week, I had my first published article as a Freelance writer on Yahoo. One of the advantages to writing for Yahoo, the Assignment Desk. If I am having trouble with topics to write about, I can search the Assignment Desk and accept a topic. This article was a subject posted to the desk and I accepted it, to start some where. Saving Money When I Go Shopping

I learned how to buy cute clothes for my kids, myself and save money when I shop. As a single mom of two, I was struggling to keep up with clothes for them. My son was an infant and growing out of his clothes fast, when I discovered clearance racks. It was one of the smartest things I had discovered to do, as a parent. I went to my local mall, to shop for baby clothes. One of the stores was having a great sale on clearance items. The problem for me then, they were all bigger sizes than what he was in at the time. I could not pass up the price, some were marked to $15 and take an additional 70% off that price. The clothes were for the winter season and we were going into summer, the stores were blowing out the old merchandise. I bought the bigger sizes on the rack, took them home and saved them for winter. I started shopping the clearance racks at every store, in the town I lived in. The key is to set your spending limit, mine was $50 for both kids. I would hunt the clearance racks...

Song Writing

When I was a young girl, one of my many dreams was to be the 'Best Song Writer' ever. I spent hours writing songs with my uncle, who taught me about music and song writing. As I grew up, I poured my soul onto paper, writing lyrics about love, life, being a mamma, you name it. I have entered a few song writing contests and had a few demo's done on my songs, I haven't fully pursued making it happen.
